Situated along the fabled New Jersey Shore, the town of Belmar offers gorgeous ocean views (Belmar means “beautiful sea” in French), a terrific beach and boardwalk, and plenty of outdoor activities for visitors and residents alike. First established as a vacation community in the late 1800s, this town of about 6000 continues to offer an attractive blend of beachside bliss and small-town charm today.
The town’s biggest attractions, of course, are its sandy beaches, open year round, covering more than a mile of coastline and skirted by a popular boardwalk with plenty of seaside shopping and dining. There is also a newly renovated public marina with docks able to accommodate vessels up to 120 feet. The downtown area features more shopping and dining, and hosts everything from car shows to live music during the warmer months. Outdoor recreation enthusiasts will find plenty to do, including boating, waterskiing, fishing, birding and much more.
Belmar offers a blend of new and older homes, with over half of the homes built prior to 1970. Median home values in the area currently hover around $418,000, but actual prices range from the mid-200s for a small condo to over $2 million for a larger, beachside home. The median annual income for a household in Belmar is about $61,000.
