Situated between the communities of Manasquan and Spring Lake along the New Jersey shoreline, the borough of Sea Girt offers a small-town respite for residents and vacationers alike. Originally purchased as private land for a summer estate in the mid-1800s, this beachside town was eventually developed as a summer vacation resort area. Today, its 1900 permanent inhabitants enjoy gorgeous views and outdoor activities year-round.
The beach at Sea Girt is open all year, offering a great place to sunbathe and swim in summer and to stroll quietly in the off-season. The adjacent non-commercial boardwalk provides gorgeous panoramic views of the ocean, as well as access to the town’s historic lighthouse built in 1896, for which guided tours are available to the public. Various shops and restaurants are available around town, with more shopping and dining available in nearby Manasquan.
Sea Girt is a more affluent community along the New Jersey Shore, with the median household income exceeding $102,000 per year. Home values in Sea Girt reflect the area’s popularity, with the current median home value sitting at around $1.5 Million. However, actual home prices in the area range between the high-300s for condos and smaller single-family homes to nearly $4 Million for larger homes near the coast.
Sea Girt has only one public school, Sea Girt Elementary School, which tests well above the state average and enrolls 170 students from grades PK-8. Public school students in grades 9-12 attend nearby Manasquan High School, which also tests above average and enrolls nearly 1000 students from Manasquan and nearby communities.
