Ever since it was developed in the late 1800s as a resort for vacationing New Yorkers and Philadelphians, Spring Lake has been a popular summer spot along the New Jersey Shore. But for its 2000 inhabitants, Spring Lake is much more than that—it’s a seaside home combining gorgeous ocean views with an irresistible small-town vibe, and of course, plenty of things to see and do. No wonder they call it the “Jewel of the Jersey Shore.”
Spring Lake’s biggest attraction is a two-mile stretch of several beaches (two with pool facilities), spanned by the longest non-commercial boardwalk in the state. Near the center of town, the lake from which the borough draws its name offers clear waters stocked with trout and a serene, tree-lined pathway around it. While the town is largely residential, the shopping district offers more than 60 shops and an array of fine dining choices. And with all its natural beauty, Spring Lake affords outdoor enthusiasts plenty to be excited about, with tennis courts, bike paths, boating, waterskiing, fishing, horseback riding and other activities all within reach.
Spring Lake is one of the Jersey Shore’s more affluent communities, with the median annual household income near $104,000. Likewise, homes in the area are in demand, as reflected in a median home value of $1.5 Million. Actual home values in the area show a wide price spread, ranging from the high-200s for smaller homes to over $8 million for a seaside mansion.
Spring Lake is serviced by a single public school, H.W. Mountz Elementary School, which tests well above the state average. Mountz Elementary enrolls approximately 260 students in grades PK-8.
Spring Lake students grades 9-12 normally attend nearby Manasquan High School, which enrolls approximately 1000 students from several surrounding communities. Students may also apply at one of several area magnet schools, including: Academy of Allied Health and Science, Communications High School, Marine Academy of Science and Technology, Biotechnology High School and High Technology High School.
Spring Lake is home to one private school, St. Catharine School (PK-8), administered by the Roman Catholic Diocese of Trenton. Other area private schools include:
